Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical procedure which gently resurfaces the skin. Microdermabrasion exfoliation is performed with a diamond tip which brushes the skin’s surface with the aid of a gentle vacuum. This action removes dead and damaged cells at the skin’s surface. By eliminating these surface cells with microdermabrasion, the skin is left soft and supple while forcing the regeneration of new skin cells.
Effectively minimize the appearance of:
• Fine lines
• Sun damaged skin
• Dull and congested skin
• Uneven skin tones and textural damaged skin
• Enlarged pores
After a microdermabrasion treatment, the skin may feel tight. Some individual’s experience light flaking of the skin, therefore, it is important to use a good moisturizer. Otherwise there are minimal side effects, which is why microdermabrasion is often described as the lunch hour procedure.
Depending on the condition of your skin, you may need multiple treatments and/or combining microdermabrasion with Chemical peels for optimal results. Microdermabrasion facials are usually kept at 2-3 week intervals and maintenance treatments are usually performed once a month. Microdermabrasion treatments are approximately 60 minutes in length.
However, not everyone is a candidate for microdermabrasion treatments. If you have active or open acne lesions (such as pustules), it is best advised for you to wait until these lesions heal. If you have rosacea and your skin is inflamed, you are currently not a candidate. If you’re pregnant and have what is is referred to as pregnancy mask (hyperpigmentation), it is best that you wait to have microdermabrasion treatments at least six months after you give birth.
If you have Herpes Simples I and II, microdermabrasion can cause an outbreak of this pre-existing condition, that doesn’t mean you can’t have the treatment you just need to be aware you may activate one. For HIV and AIDS patients, this treatments in contraindicated, because the skin is thinned, and can cause lesions due to a compromised immune system. Lastly, if you have diabetes, you are also not a good candidate, because the skin of individuals with diabetes is extremely compromised by the many medications they must take. Individuals with tattoos, take caution, as microdermabrasion treatments may lighten the pigment (color) of your tattoo. If you have Microbladed Eyebrows, that area will be coated with Vaseline and device will remain at a distance from the brow area.
